HW 24 - Short Story 1

It was never about the popularity. I didn't do it for anyone else, I did it for me. I needed something whole in my life. There was something missing, a gap that couldn't be filled. It wasn't always there... this void. Life is like a balloon. When your born your filled with air, but as you go on living the air starts deflating. "No you can't eat the crayons" (air leaves). "You can't go to that school" (air leaves). "You might not go to college" (air leaves). There is no way to stay fully inflated with life.

  1. i think if any thing this is exposing some fundamental ideas you have about getting older and stuff you said to me before. i feel you think that life is defalteing as you get older remember the dreams you have where you are old. what does being old mean to you? becuase if your 17 or 18 feeling this how is it when your 49 or 78? also is a baby full of air does that mean potential? that once where older we get less roads for what ever reason?

  2. Hey Jace,
I liked your story, but it was a little bit short, but I liked how you use imagery (the balloon and are life) here is nothing ells to say for me, keep using imagery but not for the whole story, like talk about other stuff and with details, good job.

  3. Jace,
I loved this quote: "Life is like a balloon. When your born your filled with air, but as you go on living the air starts deflating. 'No you can't eat crayons' (air leaves). 'You can't go to that school' (air leaves). 'You might not go to college' (air leaves). There is no way to stay fully inflated with life." This is the perfect description of growing up. Kinda like when you loose your "innocence", and don't have that perfect view of the world anymore. It kinda makes you long to be a little kid again, because the world appeared so differently. Your idea of cool is more subtle, and that in itself is like a kid...to them, everything about life and the world itself is cool. And then they grow up.

    Good Job =)

  4. Jace, I think you did a really good job with explaining how life is portrayed to be. "Like a balloon." But I really think you should have expanded on your ideas and explain why is the balloon going to stay deflated. But I really agree with you about life and how can't stay full inflated in life. I like this!
